Sometimes the most inspiring of style icons come from fictional characters. Some of our greatest fashion heroes have come from blockbuster movies or classic sitcoms, with wardrobes that we can only dream of owning.

For a while now, film fashion has been influential in sparking trends. Remember when everyone started dressing like Neo when The Matrix was released or when people started wearing headbands and dressing in head to toe prep just like Blair Waldorf?

Well here’s our list of the best dressed fictional characters from both the small and big screens….

1. Carrie Bradshaw, Sex and the City

We couldn’t not include Miss Bradshaw on this list. Carrie (and her friends) bring the Houte couture to Hollywood in every episode of Sex and the City. Fans could expect to see some of the most high-end fashion modelled on screen, from her Manolo Blahnik’s to her iconic Vivienne Westwood and Vera Wang wedding dresses. Come for the drama, stay for the fashion!

2. Fran Fine, The Nanny

With her designer suits, matching two-pieces, and body hugging dresses, Fran Fine became one of the most stylish nannies of all time.

3. Elvira Hancock, Scarface

From that chic all white suit, to plunging necklines and classy slip dresses, Elvira’s wardrobe continues to inspire style choices to this day.

4. Andy Sachs, The Devil wears Prada

Post make-over Andy transforms into a high fashion icon, with looks to make everyone jealous. “Are those the Chanel boots? Yes, yes they are.”

5. Holly Golightly, Breakfast at Tiffany’s

Fashion lovers knew they were in for a treat from the opening scene of the film. That iconic black Givenchy gown is one of the most memorable looks of a fictional character to this day. From full length gloves to stylish sleepwear and that pink party dress, Holly Golightly knew what she was doing.

6. Rachel Green, Friends

She may be best known for the ‘Rachel’ haircut, but Jennifer Aniston’s character had a wardrobe full of 90s outfits that one could only dream of having now. From chic dresses, to cute mini skirts, Rachel Green was capable of making even the most simplest of outfits look like the most stylish thing you’d seen.

7. Cher Horowitz, Clueless

Everyone remembers Cher’s yellow plaid suit and it’s become one of the most popular Halloween outfit choices for those going for a cute rather than scary approach. Cher Horowitz was not only the best dressed in her school, but she was also one of the best dressed characters of the 90s. Her computerised closet had everything from plaid suits, Calvin Klein dresses, and mini skirts.

8. Elle Woods, Legally Blonde

Elle proved that there was never a thing as too much pink. Bringing her fun and playful style to the courtroom proved no career is too serious for high fashion.

9. Blair Waldorf, Gossip Girl

Being one half of the most influential style stars on the Upper East Side, Blair Waldorf inspired people of all ages. From her signature headbands, preppy school girl uniform and her bold mix of colours and patterns, nothing was off limits for Blair.

10. Serena Van der Woodsen, Gossip Girl

Of course we can’t mention Blair without giving a shout out to the other half of that icon duo, Serena Van der Woodson.  Serena’s wardrobe had a sexier, more edgier vibe to it than Blair’s and her messy hair was envied by many.

11. Vivian Ward, Pretty Woman

From that infamous cut out dress and over the knee boots, to her post Rodeo Drive shopping spree looks, Vivian emerged as the style icon we didn’t know we needed.

12. Villanelle, Killing Eve

The international assassin had an enviable wardrobe and had the ability to surprise audiences with her paradoxical fashion choices, because who doesn’t wear a full tulle pink dress to a psych evaluation?
